Coastal chic dining room

March 14, 2018

I know there is a trend lately to forgo this room altogether, but I love having at least one always clean and ready to go to room in the house for entertaining.  That being said, I didn't care much about our dining room, largely ignoring and avoiding it and even cast it aside as a semi storage room. Nobody cared about this poor room!

Well, it's been almost 3 years since we moved and I definitely wanted to finish the space.

I went with more a coastal chic look in this room, of course in my favorite color palette-- neutrals with natural wood tones and a smidgen of pastels.

Here is the almost finished product:

Things we kept from our old home: table, sideboard and china (purchased in 2007 but in excellent condition).

I got rid of the chairs that came with the original table and found some new white simple studded ones and these striped Paris feel grey and white end chairs.

Found a great framed canvas wall art from HomeGoods to  place in between the wall sconces and a few pretty vases/glass cylinders varying in size for depth and dimension.

This beautiful handmade plate ties the room together and plays on the pastels in the canvas wall art.

I love the look of a leaning mirror!

A great 9 x 12 foot low pile rug in a distressed vintage ivory and black pattern fits perfectly in this space.

Peonies and a white wooden coastal tray I found at Home Goods for some finishing touches.  I also added some coastal details, but stayed away from anything over the top like anchors or seashells.

These hand blown glasses made in Romania seen below had a coastal feel to me:

Also, these beautiful encaustic sculptures really set a subtle but coastal vibe.  Find them at

A few more things I would like to add soon: A bar cart, and replace the sconces that came with the home with something more glam.
